Matt is an experienced youth basketball coach who has worked with players aged 8–18. Formerly a Head Coach for a competitive junior YBL team, his calm and patient coaching style focuses on building confidence, discipline, and teamwork.
Growing up as a player in Market Harborough, the complete lack of a proper place for youth players to train meant there was nowhere for young athletes to go. That personal experience inspired Matt to create a place where that support finally exists—giving young players an accessible, development-focused environment to learn, grow, and feel part of a community.
Focusing entirely on body control, core ball mechanics, and technical basics before complex team strategies.
Treating mistakes as a healthy part of the learning cycle, building confidence through positive instruction.
Encouraging consistent callouts, unselfish passing options, and direct peer respect across the court floor.
Ensuring every student has a secure, completely non-judgmental environment to develop at their own pace.
We are currently building our core skills program and reviewing player registration turnouts. Once our base groups are fully established, official competitive age brackets and club team rosters will be announced right here!
The Howlers are currently focusing on court training. Any upcoming friendlies, club scrimmages, and tournament match details will appear right here.
Harborough Howlers are proud to work with Pro Hoops Blueprint, ran by former professional basketball player Shane Walker.
Pro Hoops Blueprint supports player development beyond the weekly club session, providing additional opportunities for players to learn, train and improve. Their work includes basketball training, helping individual players to develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the game, as well as making sure basketball is accessible to all. Along with providing financial support to help the club grow, they work closely alongside us to offer hands-on guidance and collaborative training initiatives for our members.
If you are interested in joining Harborough Howlers, please contact the club directly. We will be happy to answer your questions, discuss the right session for the player, and help you get started.
